The Kidde Smoke Detector, model i12040, utilizes ionization sensor technology to detect invisible fire particles associated with flaming fires sooner than photoelectric alarms. When smoke or fire is detected, an 85-decibel alarm will sound, and a red LED will indicate that the smoke detector is sensing smoke or fire. This hardwired smoke alarm features a 9-volt battery backup, providing coverage during a power failure.
The Kidde Smoke Detector is powered by a 120-volt power source, with a 9-volt alkaline battery backup. The test-hush button allows users to test the battery operations as well as silence nuisance alarms that may occur from cooking or shower steam. The smoke detector will chirp when it's time to replace the battery.
Homeowners are advised to install smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors on every level of their home and near bedrooms to help keep their families safe from fire and poisonous gas. The Kidde Smoke Detector is UL Certified and comes with a 10-year limited manufacturer's warranty. It meets the requirements of UL 217, NFPA72 (chapter 11 2002 edition), NFPA101 (One and two-family dwellings), and Federal Housing Authority (FHA).
The ionization sensor technology in the Kidde Smoke Detector is designed to sense invisible fire particles, while the electrochemical sensor detects carbon monoxide (CO) gas. This interconnection capability allows users to connect up to 18 Kidde smoke, heat, or CO alarms, with the possibility of interconnecting 6 strobe lights or relay modules.
The Kidde Smoke Detector's UL listing and 10-year limited manufacturer's warranty on the alarm itself (not a battery performance claim) provide assurance and peace of mind for homeowners. The warranty begins when the alarm is powered on, and if the date is unknown, it is recommended to assume that replacement is needed.
